Welcome to the 177th Annual Show.
It’s hard to believe that a full year has passed since I sat down to write this foreword for last year’s schedule. While the Society’s activities continue through the winter, with the Mens Dinner, the Whist Drive, and the Dinner Dance, most people will recognize the Show as the main event of the year. This is as it should be, as it reflects the Society’s principal aim of fostering an interest in agriculture and rural affairs, but the show is also one of the most significant dates in the social
calendar, and part of the history of the village, with people bringing their children and grandchildren, as they were brought themselves.
Once again, as you will see from the timetable in this schedule, there is a very full programme of livestock and entertainment in the main ring; the ever-expanding light horse section; the dog ring; and a wide variety of trade stands to browse.
Do take the time to see the livestock, which is a key part of the show, with highly experienced judges travelling long distances to give up their time. The Clydesdales always seem to be a particular favourite.
As ever, we are indebted to the landowners for use of the spectacular setting at the Knapps, and the directors and supporters of the Show who give up hours of time before during and after to make it the success that it always has been.
The Show obviously cannot continue to function without the support of exhibitors, and of course everybody who comes along to make the day what it is.
We look forward to seeing you on the 12th May,
and here’s hoping for blue skies and sunshine.
Jock Laidlaw,
President
